The St. Lucia Kings secured a crucial 26-run victory against the Antigua Falcons at the Daren Sammy Stadium, strengthening their campaign in the 2024 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
With this win, the Kings have moved into second place on the points table, trailing the Barbados Royals, who hold the top spot based on net run rate and have a game in hand.
Batting first, the Kings posted a total of 152 for 8 in their innings. David Weise was the standout performer, scoring 43 runs to anchor the innings.
The Falcons’ captain led the bowling effort, claiming four wickets for 22 runs in his four overs.
Shamar Springer also made a significant impact, taking three wickets for 19 runs in three overs.
In pursuit of a target of 153, the Falcons stumbled early, losing five wickets for just 28 runs within the first six overs, putting them on the back foot.
A recovery effort led by Springer, who scored 23 runs, and Green, who contributed 48 runs, was not enough to chase down the target.
The Falcons were restricted to 126 for 8 at the end of their allotted overs.
Khary Pierre was instrumental in the Kings’ bowling success, taking three wickets for 24 runs in his four overs, effectively dismantling the Falcons’ batting lineup.
With this win, the Kings have solidified their position in the tournament standings, demonstrating resilience and strong performances from key players.
The competition continues on Tuesday with the Barbados Royals set to take on the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, with the match scheduled to start at 19:00 hours.
