Squash Doubles Courts at National Racquet Centre Set to Open Soon

The National Racquet Centre on Woolford Avenue is preparing for the official opening of its new Squash Doubles courts.

The facility, which has undergone significant upgrades, now features retractable bucket seating designed to accommodate up to 300 spectators.

Minister of Sport Charles Ramson Jr. confirmed via a Facebook post that the state-of-the-art facility will open its doors in two weeks.

Previously, during local and regional championships in 2024, including the Senior Area Squash Association Championships (CASA), temporary seating was used.

The local squash community has long advocated for a dedicated doubles court, believing it will greatly enhance the sport’s development in Guyana and the region.

With the completion of this project, Guyana joins the British Virgin Islands as one of the Caribbean countries with internationally standard doubles courts.

These courts can also be adapted to host two doubles matches simultaneously, utilizing three singles courts.

The construction of the facility, which began one year ago, was funded with an allocation of 65 million dollars from the government through the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport.

This investment is expected to boost the sport of squash, providing a venue for doubles tournaments at both the junior and senior levels.

As the final touches are made, the squash community eagerly anticipates the official opening of this new facility, which promises to be a game-changer for the sport in the country.
