The commitment to sports development across Guyana extends to the riverine communities of Region Ten, where the Falmouth ground is undergoing significant enhancements as part of the Government Community Ground Enhancement Program.
Regional Executive Officer Dwight John announced the commencement of development works aimed at improving the playfield in Falmouth, Region Ten, during a recent outreach to Riversview.
According to John, President Dr. Irfaan Ali pledged to upgrade and renovate the sports ground in Falmouth, prompting the initiation of enhancement works by a private contractor engaged by the government.
The ongoing efforts include site clearing, de-bushing, and grading to ensure accessibility and usability for the benefit of the community’s more than 600 residents.
John emphasized the importance of providing Falmouth with a modern sports facility comparable to the upgraded grounds in Riversview, equipped with stands and lighting.
He expressed optimism that the Falmouth ground would soon meet the same standard, offering residents a conducive environment for various sports activities.
The commitment to sports development in Guyana is reflected in Budget 2024, which allocates $4.6 billion to advance sports initiatives nationwide.
A significant portion of this allocation, amounting to one billion dollars, is earmarked for the continued development of grounds across the country, ensuring that communities like Falmouth receive the necessary support to foster sporting excellence.
As the enhancement works progress in Falmouth, residents eagerly anticipate the transformation of their local sports ground, poised to become a hub for recreational and competitive activities in Region Ten.
