The Judiciary is preparing to launch two specialized courts—the Mental Health Court and the Mobile Court—within the first quarter of 2025.

This initiative, announced by Acting Chancellor Madam Justice Yonette Cummings Edwards during the Law Year 2025 on Tuesday, is aimed at addressing the evolving challenges in the administration of justice, ensuring that the legal system remains responsive to the diverse needs of the people.

The Mental Health Court will focus on cases involving individuals with mental health conditions, while the Mobile Court will bring legal services directly to communities, ensuring greater accessibility for citizens who might otherwise face barriers to attending court.

Chancellor Cummings Edwards explained that the goal of these specialized courts is to enhance efficiency, accountability, and the optimal use of resources.

By tailoring the judicial process to specific needs, the courts will ensure a more effective and responsive legal system.

This step is part of a broader strategy by the judiciary to modernize its operations and restructure its framework to meet the demands of a growing society.

The establishment of these courts will also help improve access to justice, with the ultimate aim of achieving excellence in legal services for all citizens.
