Hururu in Region Ten celebrated the delivery of solar panels on Friday as part of the government’s Solar Home Systems project.
The initiative aims to distribute 30,000 solar home system units to households in hinterland, rural, and riverine communities across the country, working towards bridging the energy divide.
Each system, including a 160-watt solar panel and a mobile charging facility, promises improved electricity access for residents.
Deputy Toshao of Hururu Village, Giddeon Hartman, emphasized the invaluable nature of these units during power outages, praising their benefits for the community.
Residents echoed their appreciation for the solar panels, expressing happiness and gratitude for the initiative.
Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, highlighted the government’s commitment to delivering on promises and ensuring that students can use the solar-powered systems for homework.
The Solar Home Systems project, a significant step in minimizing the country’s carbon footprint, aligns with the government’s broader agenda of promoting sustainable energy solutions and fostering development in remote areas.
As 190 households in Hururu and its satellite villages receive these solar panels, the initiative marks another stride towards a more inclusive and energy-efficient Guyana.
