In a significant move diversifying Guyana’s sports landscape, the DaSilva family, based in Canada, has initiated the construction of the ‘Timehri Sands Golf Course and Country Club.’
Breaking ground on Thursday, the 9-hole golf course is poised to become a prominent feature on the East Bank of Demerara, covering the Hyde Park area.
The DaSilva family envisions the golf course as a unique experience that resonates with both Guyanese locals and visitors.
Spanning a par 35 layout over 3000 yards, the course will unfold across 71.5 acres of land in Hyde Park Timehri.
With an estimated completion date set for 2026, the project carries a budget of 3 million US dollars.
Architect Jason Millers, responsible for the course’s design, believes the chosen area is ideal for creating a world-class venue, emphasizing its expandable nature to accommodate future developments.
Kurt DaSilva shared that the family’s passion for golf grew during the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, evolving from a pastime into a deep-seated love for the sport.
Their affinity for Guyana inspired the concept of establishing a golf course in the region.
Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr., commended the DaSilva family’s commitment to the project, acknowledging its potential to contribute to sports tourism.
Ramson sees the development of more golf spaces as aligning with Guyana’s broader vision for sporting development and economic growth.
The ‘Timehri Sands Golf Course and Country Club’ represents a notable addition to Guyana’s sports infrastructure, offering a new avenue for sports enthusiasts and contributing to the country’s tourism appeal.
