In a significant step towards enhancing healthcare infrastructure, the groundbreaking ceremony for a modern training facility for nurses and nursing students took place at Suddie, Essequibo Coast in Region Two.
This state-of-the-art facility, estimated at $881 million, is part of the government’s commitment to transforming the local health sector and creating a world-class healthcare system.
The construction of new modern regional hospitals, coupled with major upgrades to existing facilities, has heightened the demand for skilled nurses and healthcare professionals.
Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony emphasized the challenges of central training and the difficulty in getting trained individuals to return to regional areas to serve.
Therefore, the decision to decentralize the nurses’ training program aims to address these challenges.
Minister Anthony noted that the training programs are being offered in a hybrid system, and he assured that employment opportunities would be available for graduates.
Currently, there are three nursing schools in Guyana, situated in Linden, New Amsterdam, and Georgetown.
The new training facility is expected to be completed within 18 months, aligning with the government’s broader strategy to strengthen healthcare services across the country.
