Following the thrilling Guyana Cup, the prestigious President’s Cup horse racing meet is set to take place on Sunday, September 22, at the Rising Sun Turf Club as part of the Cricket Carnival Season.
This highly anticipated event promises a rematch for several stables, eager to redeem themselves after the upsets of the Guyana Cup.
Registration for the nine-race program will open on September 11 and close on September 17.
Among the competitors, the defending champion, Slingerz Racing Stable, is ready to defend their title after securing the 2023 President’s Cup victory with their horse, John Bull.
Owner Javid Ali expressed confidence in John Bull’s performance, highlighting the horse’s excellent condition as they prepare to storm the track once again.
Ali also noted that their Guyana Cup champion, Olympic Kremlin, would be a formidable opponent for any challengers in the President’s Cup.
Alongside Olympic Kremlin and John Bull, other top contenders expected to race include Stolen Money, former Guyana Cup champion Easy Time, Oy Vey, and Spankhurst.
The President’s Cup boasts a total prize purse of G$15 million, with the feature race alone offering a payout of close to G$6 million.
The main event will be run over eight furlongs and is open to all horses three years and older.
In addition to the main event, the day will feature races for three-year-old Guyana and West Indian-bred horses, Sprint ‘E’ Class for horses three years and older, two-year-old maidens, and H1 and Lower Open to ‘G’ Class Non-Earners at the Guyana Cup.
Entry forms for the President’s Cup will be available at the Port Mourant Racecourse, Rising Sun Turf Club, Bush Lot United Turf Club, and 106 Smyth Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown.
