The 16th edition of the Guyana Cup horse racing meet took place on Sunday at the Rising Sun Turf Club on the West Coast of Berbice, showcasing thrilling races under clear skies and intense heat.
The event, organized by the Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee, concluded with Olympic Kremlin from the Slingerz Racing Stable claiming the top prize of 6 million dollars in the feature race.
In a competitive field of 11 starters, Olympic Kremlin emerged as the standout, pulling ahead in the final furlong to secure a significant victory.
Nov Sol finished in second place, while the previous year’s winner, Easy Time from the Jumbo Jets Racing Stable, took third.
The day’s highlight, the Forrester Guyana Derby, featured six entrants with a 1.5 million dollars prize.
Sexual Appeal initially led but was overtaken by Forza Baby, ridden by jockey Colin Ross, who made a decisive move on the far turn.
Early Bird, despite a slow start, showcased impressive endurance to finish in third.
The Mohammad Excavating Inc L class maidens race, featuring 10 starters, was won by Little Africa, who took the lead in the sixth furlong and held it to the finish.
Lords Gift and Money Jet secured second and third places respectively.
In the Prem’s Electrical L and K class race, a photo finish saw Shake the Bank emerge victorious, with Get Them Bobby and Quiet Warrior taking second and third.
Top Gun clinched victory in the S Jagmohan K class race, finishing four lengths ahead of the competition.
Bin Laden and Money Time completed the top three.
Amazing Grace dominated the B M Soat Auto Sales J class event, winning by five lengths.
Rachel and Haley contested strongly but settled for second and third.
The J’s Supermarket H class race saw Emotional Damage narrowly defeat Blinding Lights, with Stroke of Luck finishing third.
In the Associated F class classic, Soca Harmony edged out Converter for first place, with Red Ruby coming in third.
The KP Jadgeo Juvenile Dash saw Jet Mode from the Jumbo Jet Racing Stable lead from start to finish, with Secret Traveler and Miracle Star securing second and third places.
Finally, Stormy Entry showcased an impressive performance in the Avinash Contracting Sprint Classic, leading throughout the race. Creemore and Morning Colours from the Simply Royal Racing Stable finished second and third.
