In an intense weekend showdown, Slingerz FC emerged victorious in the Guyana Football Federation KFC Elite League, overcoming a resilient Santos FC.
Slingerz FC, buoyed by recent triumphs against formidable opponents Fruta Conquerors and Monedderlust, faced a tough challenge from Santos at the National Training Center Ground in Providence.
Despite Santos taking an early lead with a goal from Michael Oie, Slingerz fought back valiantly.
Darren Niles equalized in the 45th minute, followed by Bryan Wharton’s injury-time goal, giving Slingerz a 2-1 advantage at halftime.
In the second half, Marcus Tudor secured another goal for Slingerz, sealing their victory with a 3-1 scoreline.
Meanwhile, former league champions Fruta Conquerors showcased a much-improved performance, clinching their first win of the season against Den Amstel.
After a tense first half, Naron Jerrick broke the deadlock for Fruta Conquerors, followed by an equalizer from Den Amstel’s Anthony Benn.
However, Fruta Conquerors dominated the second half, with Makhaya Jarvis scoring two crucial goals to secure a 3-1 victory.
Fruta Conquerors’ coach, Sampson Gilbert, expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, emphasizing their evolution and hard work.
