A 50-year-old single mother of three, Debra Munsami, has become the latest beneficiary of the Men on Mission (MOM) initiative, receiving a new two-bedroom home in Parfaite Harmony, West Coast Demerara.
The home was officially handed over at a ceremony held over the weekend.
Debra, who had reached out to President Irfaan Ali for assistance in providing a stable home for her children, had previously been living in a plywood structure that struggled to withstand the weather.
The new house marks a significant improvement in the family’s living conditions.
The keys to the new home were presented to Debra by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hugh Todd.
In his remarks, Minister Todd emphasized the government’s commitment to representing all of Guyana and fulfilling the needs of its citizens, highlighting the importance of ensuring families like Debra’s receive the support they need.
Dr. Sawan Jagnarain, a member of the Men on Mission Committee, spoke about the importance of the initiative.
He noted that the program was designed to ensure that citizens are physically, mentally, and emotionally stable, with careful selection of beneficiaries to meet these essential criteria.
The Men on Mission program, which was conceived by President Ali, is part of his broader “One Guyana” initiative.
For 2024, the government allocated 500 million dollars to support the program, which aims to provide stable housing for vulnerable families across the country.
