Simulation Clinical Skills Lab Commissioned in Region 10

The Ministry of Health has inaugurated the first Simulation Clinical Skills Laboratory in Region 10, marking a significant step forward in nursing education and training.

Located at the Charles Rosa School of Nursing in Linden, Region 10, the Simulation Clinical Skills Lab is poised to enhance the practical clinical skills of nursing students, equipping them with the necessary expertise to provide quality patient care.

Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony, conceptualized this initiative to address the need for increased training opportunities for nurses across Guyana.

Speaking on the importance of practical training, Dr. Anthony emphasized the significance of providing students with hands-on experience to complement their theoretical knowledge.

Currently, the region has 140 nursing assistant students and 191 registered nursing trainees.

Chandroutie Persaud, Deputy Director of Health Science Education at the Ministry of Health, highlighted plans to establish additional simulation labs nationwide, underscoring the commitment to enhancing nursing education and training nationwide.

Dr. Gregory Harris, Regional Health Officer of Region 10, lauded the Simulation Lab as a revolutionary approach to nursing training.

He emphasized the benefits of simulation training in preparing students for real-world clinical scenarios and pledged to ensure the lab’s maintenance and upkeep.

Situated on the top floor of the Charles Rosa School of Nursing, the Simulation Clinical Skills Lab will cater to nursing students both in traditional classroom settings and through online platforms.

During the lab’s inauguration, student nurses showcased their clinical techniques using the fidelity model, providing firsthand insight into the training process.

With the commissioning of the Simulation Clinical Skills Lab, Region 10 is poised to elevate nursing education standards, empowering future healthcare professionals with the practical skills and experience needed to excel in their careers.
