Residents of Silverhill, located on the East Bank of Demerara, now have improved access to water following the distribution of 159 new water tanks.
This initiative, spearheaded by Public Affairs Minister Kwame McCoy, aims to provide much-needed relief to the community.
Each of the 450-gallon tanks is designed to support residents who previously had to travel long distances to collect water from creeks or rely on rainfall.
The new tanks will alleviate the burden of water collection and provide a more reliable water source for households.
Local residents expressed their gratitude for the distribution, noting how it would improve their quality of life.
Some shared that they often struggled to access clean water, with one resident, Grace Prescott, mentioning that she previously had to gather water from the creek.
Minister McCoy highlighted the significance of the initiative, emphasizing the government’s commitment to meeting the needs of its citizens and improving their living conditions.
He reiterated that the distribution of the tanks is part of a broader effort to fulfill promises made by the government to support communities.
The distribution of the water tanks marks another step in the government’s ongoing efforts to address basic needs and enhance the lives of Guyanese citizens.
