At the International Building Expo, President Irfaan Ali announced that the ambitious Silica City Project, located along the Linden/Soesdyke Highway, is on track for realization by 2030.

The project, which aims to create Guyana’s first modern, climate-resilient urban center, will span 3,800 acres.

President Ali emphasized that the development of Silica City has been a focus of the PPP administration since its return to office in 2020, although efforts began even before the party’s current term.

The master plan for the city has been developed with input from international partners, including the University of Miami School of Architecture, ensuring that the city will be sustainable, resilient, and innovative.

The city will feature modern infrastructure and aims to foster a vibrant, inclusive urban economy, providing ample opportunities for businesses and sectors to thrive.

The initial phase of the project includes the construction of 400 residences intended for young professionals.

Over time, the development is expected to expand to accommodate more than 12,500 homes.

A significant milestone for the project was reached with a $2.1 billion contract signed in February 2023.
