Randy Mangal of Skeldon Line Path Secondary School has been named Guyana’s Youth Environmental Speaker 2026 after winning the Shout 4 Change competition.

This year, 20 students competed in Shout 4 Change with 10 advancing to the national finals and 4 reaching the question-and-answer round.

Randy Mangal of Skeldon Line Path Secondary School emerged from the competition claiming the top prize for his presentation on renewable energy storage technologies and their potential benefits for Guyana. He received a one-million-dollar grant to support an environmental project at his school, along with several other prizes.

“The sun sets, the wind slows down, yet energy demands continues. To solve these challenges, advanced battery systems like lithium-ion and solid-state batteries can power homes and communities. In Guyana, microgrids can store energy independently while pumped hydro storage uses water to support grid stability,” he said.

Bhoomika Singh of Tagore Memorial Secondary placed second with her presentation on the effects of climate change and extreme weather, while Brandon Holder of Hope Secondary School secured third place for his focus on energy-efficient housing solutions.

In his presentation, Holder said, “One effective housing solution is energy sufficient housing. Engineers can design larger windows and improve ventilation systems to reduce the usage of electric fans which is useful in Guyana’s warm climate.”

Orlando Reynolds of President’s College placed fourth with his presentation on ocean conservation.
