The Guyana Squash Association’s E-Net event concluded on Thursday at the Georgetown Club, Camp Street, with Shomair Wiltshire and Ashley Khalil emerging as the champions in the men’s and women’s senior categories, respectively.

In the women’s national draw, Ashley Khalil secured victory over Mary Fung-A-Fat in four sets, with scores of 11-5, 11-9, 5-11, and 11-9.

Meanwhile, in the men’s nationals, Shomair Wiltshire faced off against Daniel Ince in a challenging encounter that ultimately ended with Wiltshire claiming victory and earning bragging rights.

Despite a strong start from Ince, who won the first set 7-11, Wiltshire managed to adjust his game, slowing down the pace and dictating the tempo.

He went on to win the next three sets convincingly, with scores of 11-7, 11-4, and 11-2.

Following his win, Wiltshire shared his thoughts with NCN sport, acknowledging the intensity of the match and expressing gratitude for coming out on top.

He credited his ability to adjust his strategy midway through the game, allowing him to seize control and secure the win.

As a Drexel University accounting student, Wiltshire now sets his sights on the Caribbean championships scheduled for August.

Despite a brief break from training, he remains determined to maintain his good form and aims to make an impact at the upcoming tournament, especially with it being hosted in Guyana.

The National Squash event was made possible through sponsorship from E-Net, with support from the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport.

The conclusion of the tournament marks another successful chapter in Guyana’s squash scene, with Wiltshire and Khalil emerging as deserving champions in their respective categories.
