In a thrilling international basketball friendly over the weekend, Guyana’s Shane Webster showcased an outstanding performance, leading his team to a 77-62 victory over neighboring Suriname at the National Gymnasium.

The highly anticipated clash began with Suriname taking an early lead, with Michael Ton-A-Tsiren contributing 19 points, giving them a 20-16 advantage at the end of the first period.

Suriname’s Eorrin De Rambne and Archinio Pro-ido continued their solid play, recording 12 and 11 points, respectively, maintaining an eight-point lead (41-33) at halftime.

Guyana’s Shane Webster emerged as a dominant force in the third quarter, demonstrating strength on both offensive and defensive fronts.

His remarkable performance helped narrow the gap, with Guyana trailing 53-50 by the end of the third quarter.

In the final quarter, Nicholai Smith played a crucial role, registering 18 vital points for Guyana, and they outscored Suriname 21-9 to secure a 77-62 victory.

Veteran national player Shelroy Thomas contributed 9 points to the team’s success.

The friendly match, organized by the Guyana Basketball Federation, serves as part of the country’s preparations for the Caribbean Basketball Confederation Championship scheduled for the next year.

The Suriname Basketball Association (SBA) will also host games in Paramaribo in January, featuring French Guiana, providing essential game practice ahead of the regional tournament.
