Sergeant de Vera Urges Patience to Prevent Traffic Accidents

By Fabiana McKlmon

Lack of patience is a leading cause of traffic accidents, a quality that many drivers in the country fail to exercise.

This was highlighted by Harold de Vera, a sergeant stationed at the East La Penitence police station, during the programme “Road Safety and You.”

Traffic accidents often stem from various factors, including impatience, poor judgment, and ignorance of traffic rules.

Many drivers disregard order on the road, contributing to collisions and other traffic incidents.

Sergeant de Vera explained that recent traffic accidents, especially on Mandela Avenue, have been primarily due to the impatience of drivers.

In the past few weeks, there have been nearly eight accidents in this area, primarily involving small vehicles like motor cars and mini-buses.

De Vera emphasized that better judgment and attentiveness by drivers could prevent such collisions.

Sergeant de Vera urged drivers to focus on their own well-being and remain calm despite the heavy traffic encountered daily.

He highlighted the importance of cooperation between drivers and law enforcement to ensure road safety.

Drivers are encouraged to help themselves by being patient and exercising caution.

To improve road safety, drivers should practice maintaining a healthy distance from other vehicles, adhering to speed limits, and avoiding distractions.

These measures can significantly reduce the risk of accidents and ensure the safety of all road users.
