In celebration of the International Day of Older Persons, the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security organized a lively event, “Seniors in Fashion – A Day of Celebration,” held at the Kingston Seawall.

Over 100 senior citizens gathered to enjoy a festive afternoon dedicated to honoring their contributions to society, with activities including fashion displays, music, and shared meals.

Dr. Vindhya Persaud, Minister of Human Services and Social Security, addressed the attendees, acknowledging the lasting impact seniors have made in Guyana and underscoring the importance of continued social support for their well-being.

She encouraged them to incorporate physical activity into their daily routines as part of a healthy lifestyle and highlighted the Ministry’s efforts to bridge the digital gap, promoting digital pension payments for added convenience.

Dr. Persaud also discussed plans to establish care centers across the country that will provide social activities and resources for elderly citizens in their later years.

The event highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to fostering a supportive community for senior citizens, celebrating both their past accomplishments and their ongoing roles in Guyanese society.
