Samville Residents to Finally Receive Electricity After 15 Years

By Delicia Janneire | October 4, 2024

Residents of Samville, located on the Soesdyke-Linden Highway, are set to receive electricity for the first time in over 15 years, benefiting approximately 500 households in the community.

During a recent visit, Nigel Chetram, the GPL Network Manager for the Demerara Zone, confirmed that the electrical network has been completed, and power is now available.

Community members are encouraged to apply for electricity by registering for their meters at the Georgetown GPL office.

This significant development involved the installation of more than 5,000 meters of cable, allowing residents who previously relied on solar panels to access a legitimate power supply.

Community Development Council Chair Ann Marie expressed that the residents are relieved after years of inadequate electricity services.

She noted that the community is eager for the positive changes that the new power supply will bring.

Council member Edris Boston highlighted the importance of ensuring residents understand the necessary documentation required to obtain electricity legitimately.

Local resident Ms. Vincent expressed her appreciation for the education provided about the process, emphasizing the community’s readiness to adapt to this new energy supply.

The introduction of electricity marks a pivotal moment for the residents of Samville, promising to enhance their quality of life and facilitate greater development opportunities.
