A major gospel music event is set to take over the Guyana National Stadium this weekend, when ONE MEGA Weekend returns. It will be headlined by Guyanese-born, international award-winning artiste Samuel Medas, who is also launching his seventh studio album at the event.
Ahead of the launch of his seventh studio album titled “One Thing”, Guyanese born gospel recording artiste Samuel Medas spoke of the significance of this milestone.
“It’s a significant milestone because I think over the years I have become known as the reggae gospel artist. This album is different. It kind of has a feel of my very first album which was more of praise and worship. I think it shows the maturity of Sammy over the years too,” he said.
The album, he said, reflects both his spiritual and musical growth spanning his career. It is also the first album to come from the studio he built, with help from the Government’s Cultural and Creative Industries Grant.
“This is the first album of mine that was produced from my studio. So all the other albums that I’ve produced, I’ve worked out of other studios in Guyana. This is the first project that I have done that’s from my studio that I built. That means I had the comfort, I had the time, I had all the resources to really take my time and put this album together,”
The album launch forms part of the two-night ONE MEGA Weekend, featuring vintage gospel on night one and a live worship experience on night two.
“You’re not gonna hear anything after 2005. So from the 2000s, the 90s, the 80s, the kind of music that we grew up listening to. Ministry nonetheless, but just a celebration of the kind of music that really influenced us who are doing music today. And I’m bringing Carleen Davis. She is a legend in gospel music,” he further explained.
ONE MEGA Weekend runs from January 23 to 24 at the Guyana National Stadium, starting 7 p.m. nightly. Tickets cost $5,000 per night and are available at Andrew’s Supermarket, Supreme Laundromat, Premium Cuts, Upper Level Barbershop. Persons can also purchase tickets online via the Potsalt Media app. Medas also had a parting message for believers.
“I just want people to focus their eyes on Jesus because there are a lot of distractions. And this is the age of information and misinformation. You know, we make it a lot, we make it about everything else,”
