–as PM Pierre unveils Regional Renewal Agenda

Saint Lucia will host the Fifty-First Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM from July 5 to 8 in Gros Islet.
Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre, who assumes the CARICOM chairmanship on July 1, says the meeting will be held under the theme, “CARICOM: From Resilience to Renewal in a Changing World.”
He noted that the Caribbean must move beyond resilience and focus on renewing its economies, institutions and regional cooperation.
“This orderly rotation of leadership reflects one of the enduring strengths of our community. Shared responsibility, continuity and and the collective commitment of Member States to advance the regional agenda in service of the Caribbean people,” he said.
During Saint Lucia’s six-month tenure as Chair, priorities will include climate resilience, regional security, economic cooperation and food and nutrition security.
A Heads of Government Retreat is scheduled for July 6, followed by formal business sessions on July 7 and 8.
Regional leaders are expected to deliberate on issues critical to strengthening integration and improving the lives of Caribbean people.
