On Friday, the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security launched a new storybook titled “Safe and Strong” at FE Pollard Primary School.

The storybook, developed by the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Unit, is designed to educate children about various forms of abuse, child rights, and how to seek help.

During the launch, Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr. Vindhya Persaud, spoke to the students about the importance of knowing their rights.

She emphasized the significance of the 914 hotline, which children can call for help in cases of violence and abuse.

“That’s a number for anyone who experiences violence and abuse, including our children. You have plenty of rights, so ask your teachers every day to share one child’s right with you, so by the end of next year, you know all your rights, and those must be respected,” she said.

Minister Persaud also encouraged the students to focus on their studies, reminding them that “not everyone can learn the same way or at the same pace, but always give your best shot and try to be the best version of yourself.”

This book launch coincides with the Sixteen Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence and will be distributed across schools nationwide, ensuring that the message reaches children and families throughout the country.
