American tennis player Sachia Vickery, with Guyanese heritage, conducted a tennis camp at the National Racquet Center on Woolford Avenue, drawing scores of young players eager to learn from her experiences at the highest level of the game.
Returning home after some time, Vickery expressed delight at the turnout of young tennis players eager to benefit from her expertise.
The camp, which commenced on Wednesday, focuses on the development of younger athletes while also enhancing the skills of seasoned players.
Vickery, 28, emphasized the significance of the camp in providing local talent with the knowledge essential for success in the sport.
She highlighted the positive impact such initiatives can have on the future of tennis in Guyana.
Acknowledging the importance of game development, Vickery, who reached a career-high world ranking of 73 in the Women’s Tennis Association in 2018, aims to contribute to the growth of tennis talent in Guyana.
Her notable achievements on the WTA Tour include reaching the semifinals at the 2018 Auckland Open and the 2018 Monterrey Open.
