Rotary Club of Garden City Hosts Media Mixer to Showcase Goals

by Delicia Janniere

The Rotary Club of Garden City (Georgetown) organized a media mixer event last evening to highlight the club’s objectives and mission.

President Elect Melissa De Santos outlined the club’s areas of focus, which include environmental support, food security, and combating pollution.

She discussed one of their recent initiatives aimed at promoting peace and preventing conflict, particularly addressing bullying in schools.

De Santos elaborated on the project, mentioning plans for talks at schools, installation of peace poles, and benches in designated calm areas.

These spaces aim to provide students experiencing conflict with a peaceful environment to relax and freely express themselves.

Additionally, De Santos mentioned other projects close to the club members’ hearts, such as a farm-to-table and cooking program.

The farm-to-table initiative involves planting crops with the hope that they will be utilized in the kitchens of homes they support.

The club also executed a cooking program for cooks in several homes across Georgetown.

Among their various projects, the club is involved in distributing the “Eat WELL, Move Well for Good Health” Children’s Handbook, the “Empower Girls Now” Project, and upgrading the Computer Hub at the Mocha Arcadia Community Centre.
