The Rose Hall Estate in Canje has reached a significant milestone by successfully crushing over 14,500 tonnes of sugar canes since its reopening.
The Estate Manager, Vijay Goberdhan, disclosed this information, expressing optimism that the estate is on track to fulfill its full potential by the end of 2024.
When the Peoples Progressive Party administration assumed office, reviving the Rose Hall Estate in Canje and reemploying workers who had been laid off by the previous administration became a top priority.
The estate, closed by the APNU+AFC administration, resumed operations in September of the current year.
Initially faced with a substantial stockpile of 62,000 tonnes of sugar cane, the estate’s mill successfully processed 14,500 tonnes, yielding an impressive 1031 tonnes of sugar.
The remaining canes were processed at the Albion factory.
Estate Manager Vijay Goberdhan highlighted the challenges of securing adequate labor during this process.
According to Goberdhan, the refurbishment of the Rose Hall Estate was executed by a local workforce.
He emphasized that the estate’s management is diligently working towards achieving its full potential by the end of 2024.
Key tasks on their agenda include tillage and planting, employment, as well as training and development.
In a separate event, the management of the Rose Hall Estate organized its annual pensioners Christmas social.
Long-serving members of the estate were treated to a day filled with fun, hampers, and other festive goodies in celebration of the Christmas holiday.
As the Rose Hall Estate continues to make strides in its reopening process, the commitment to local workforce involvement and community engagement remains a focal point for the estate’s management.
