Vendors at the McKenzie market in Linden have voiced their concerns about the negative impact of illegal vending and roadside vending on their businesses.
During a recent cabinet outreach to Linden, Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister, Kwame McCoy, engaged with vendors in the McKenzie Market, as well as the surrounding areas, as part of a walkabout exercise to connect with citizens.
Vendors expressed their worries about the increase in what they consider to be unauthorized vending activities along the roadsides.
They believe this is contributing to a reduction in foot traffic within the market, ultimately affecting their sales.
Additionally, vendors inquired about access to small business grants to help boost their enterprises.
While business has been reported to be slow in the market, there is hope that the upcoming Christmas season will bring about an increase in sales.
Residents also took the opportunity to address concerns about the aging McKenzie/Wismar Bridge.
Minister McCoy assured the residents that upcoming projects are in the pipeline to transform Linden, including plans for a new bridge.
The Minister’s visit was met with appreciation from the residents.
