Regional Health Officers (RHOs) in Guyana have been tasked with conducting assessments of their respective primary healthcare systems.
Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony announced this initiative with the aim of addressing regional health needs and challenges more effectively and enhancing service delivery.
The assessments will help identify and understand various issues plaguing the healthcare system, including the availability of medical equipment and the sufficiency of human resources.
By gaining insights into the specific challenges faced by each region, the government can strategically address these concerns to improve overall healthcare delivery.
Minister Anthony revealed that his ministry is currently working on implementing around 216 interventions to increase the accessibility of healthcare services for citizens. However, the success of these interventions relies on first addressing and resolving the regional challenges identified through the assessments.
The announcement was made during the opening ceremony of a 3-day regional health officers conference held at the Health Ministry’s Brickdam Office.
The conference provides a platform for health officials to discuss and collaborate on strategies for enhancing healthcare delivery at the regional level.
