Residents of Orealla Seek Urgent Attention for Thick Smoke Issue

Residents of Orealla and Siparuta, located in the East Berbice-Corentyne Region, along with neighboring communities, are calling for urgent attention to address the thick smoke affecting the area.

Angela Deviera, a resident of Orealla, expressed concerns about the challenging weeks her community has endured due to a mysterious white smoke that has been plaguing the area for over two weeks.

She described the smoke as thick and difficult to breathe, making daily life unbearable.

According to Deviera, the source of the smoke remains unknown, but residents believe it may be coming from a forest fire in neighboring Suriname.

Urging relevant authorities to take swift action, she emphasized the potential health risks posed by prolonged exposure to the smoke.

Residents fear that if the situation persists, it could lead to serious health problems, especially considering the limited healthcare facilities in Orealla and Siparuta.

With only one health center and minimal medical personnel available, the community is ill-equipped to handle health emergencies caused by the smoke.

Despite attempts to contact the Environmental Protection Agency Guyana for further information on the issue, NCN NEWS was unable to reach them.

The residents of Orealla and Siparuta are appealing for immediate intervention to address the thick smoke, emphasizing the urgency of the situation to prevent further health complications.
