On May 26, 1966, a significant moment in Guyana’s history unfolded as the Union Jack was lowered, and the Golden Arrowhead was hoisted, marking the birth of an independent nation.
Now, as Guyana prepares to celebrate its 58th Independence Day anniversary, a historic move has been made by the Government of Guyana.
For the first time, the national flag raising ceremony will take place in Linden at the Mackenzie Stadium.
As preparations intensify for the hosting of the Independence flag raising ceremony in Linden, residents have expressed their thoughts on this historic move.
Seon Smith, a resident, described it as “very nice” and “a great look for Guyana.”
Joel Sampson echoed similar sentiments, stating that it will “edify the young” and serve as an “opening” for Linden.
Roxanne Smith emphasized that it will be “a good look for Linden,” highlighting the significance of hosting such an event in their community.
Dr. Shurdon Murray expressed his excitement, stating that “the independence celebration” is something they are proud to be part of this year.
Another resident emphasized the unity symbolized by the event, describing it as “one Guyana” and a “good path” for the nation.
Ryan Sampson echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the positive trajectory Guyana is on.
Lennox Gasper, Linden’s Town Clerk, hailed the occasion as a “major historic moment,” underscoring the significance of hosting the Independence flag raising ceremony in Linden.
In light of this historic event, Public Works Minister Bishop Juan Edghill has urged residents to demonstrate their patriotism by proudly flying the Golden Arrowhead at their homes and offices and by participating in community cleanup efforts.
As the nation prepares to commemorate its Independence Day, the decision to hold the flag raising ceremony in Linden has been met with enthusiasm and pride by residents, underscoring the unity and patriotism of the Guyanese people.
