Residents Empowered to Monitor Community Road Projects, Says Minister Edghill

Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, recently engaged residents on the West Coast of Demerara, discussing infrastructural development and the benefits of the GY$1.146 trillion budget.

Minister Edghill emphasized the government’s commitment to aggressive infrastructural development aimed at improving accessibility and enhancing citizens’ livelihoods.

He highlighted the allocation of GY$70 billion for community road construction and informed residents about the 72 active road projects already underway, with nearly 200 roads already built in the region.

Encouraging community involvement, Minister Edghill urged residents to establish better relationships with engineers involved in the projects.

He emphasized the importance of residents monitoring the progress of these projects to ensure the quality of work being undertaken.

Furthermore, Minister Edghill underscored the significant impact of the trillion-dollar budget in accelerating growth across all sectors, with benefits for all Guyanese.

In 2023 alone, a total of 2,852 infrastructural projects were completed, including the construction of 349 kilometers of miscellaneous and urban roads, along with 411 kilometers of laterite roads in hinterland regions.

The engagement with residents on the West Coast of Demerara reflects the government’s commitment to transparency, community involvement, and infrastructural development as integral components of national progress.
