Sand truck operators who were previously stationed at the Ruimveldt reserve near the Torginol Paint Company have reached an agreement with authorities to continue their business at a new location.
This decision followed a meeting between the operators, the Guyana Police Force, and Public Works Minister, Juan Edghill.
The trucks, which were affecting the daily operations of Torginol by parking on the state reserve, will now be relocated to the vicinity of National Hardware, situated on the southern side of the Houston bypass road.
This new area will allow the operators to park without obstructing businesses and maintain their operations.
During the discussions, the sand truck operators expressed their satisfaction with the solution, highlighting the importance of being able to continue their trade.
Several operators voiced their gratitude for the outcome, noting the positive collaboration with the Minister and authorities.
The Guyana Police Force, led by Assistant Commissioner Simon McBean, will oversee the new location to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and safe parking arrangements.
According to McBean, the new location provides ample space for the trucks to park off the road, ensuring minimal disruption for other road users.
Minister Edghill emphasized that the government remains committed to facilitating economic activities and ensuring that local businesses are not stifled.
He reiterated the administration’s support for creating solutions that balance business operations with the broader public interest.
The relocation agreement marks a positive outcome for all parties involved, allowing sand truck operators to continue their trade while resolving the concerns of neighboring businesses.
