The Public Works Ministry is spearheading the rehabilitation of the Parika Stelling, with the relocation of the catwalk being among the key initiatives.
Minister Juan Edghill highlighted this development during a recent site visit to the stelling, as reported by Delicia Janneire.
Superintendent Thameshwar Persaud provided an update to the minister regarding the next phase of works at the Parika Stelling.
Already completed repairs to the link span and other structures aim to ensure seamless transport of goods and passengers.
Persaud outlined the upcoming tasks, including driving back fender piles and comprehensive repairs to the catwalk.
The relocation of the catwalk away from the fender pile is intended to prevent vessels from bracing onto it during movements.
Minister Edghill also inspected the new MV Hercules, which was acquired at a cost of 900 thousand US dollars.
This vessel boasts the capacity to accommodate 54 vehicles, significantly enhancing transportation efficiency.
The minister clarified that the MV Hercules is primarily designed for vehicle transport, with limited passenger capacity. Its introduction addresses logistical challenges, particularly for communities like Supenaam, Bartica, Leguan, and Wakenaam.
As rehabilitative efforts continue at the Parika Stelling and with the addition of the MV Hercules to the transportation fleet, the Public Works Ministry aims to improve accessibility and efficiency in maritime transportation, ultimately benefiting the populace.
