Rehabilitation of Lenora Market Road to Begin on Monday

By Delicia Janneire | November 11, 2024

President Irfaan Ali announced that rehabilitation works on the Lenora Market road will begin on Monday.

During a visit to the market, where he engaged with vendors, the Head of State confirmed that the road will be expanded to 16 feet, with concrete drains on both sides.

Additionally, a new bridge will be constructed to replace the existing one, which has been deemed unsafe.

The President also assured vendors that every effort will be made to minimize disruption during the roadworks, ensuring they can continue their businesses as usual.

Once the roadworks are completed, vendors currently positioned along the market road will be reinstated.

In a bid to improve the overall functionality and safety of the market, President Ali announced that market hours would be extended.

A new security system, including 24-hour electronic monitoring with cameras, will be implemented to enhance the safety of vendors and shoppers.

The market is also undergoing further upgrades, including enhanced washroom facilities, additional parking, and systems to assist the elderly.

A designated shower and hammock area will be provided for farmers who need to stay overnight or spend extended hours at the market.

Improved drainage systems will ensure a cleaner environment for business operations.

President Ali emphasized that a new market committee would be established to ensure the proper upkeep of these new facilities.
