A wave of patriotism swept across Regions 5 and 6 as celebrations for Guyana’s 60th Independence anniversary intensified Flag raising ceremonies in both regions were marked by vibrant cultural performances that captivated the hundreds in attendance.
In Region 5 the atmosphere came alive with displays of culture diversity and national pride through drumming singing and dancing performances. Among those present was Minister of Human Services and Social Security Dr. Vindhya Persaud who reminded the residents of the significance of President Dr. Irfaan Ali’s One Guyana Initiative which promotes unity and togetherness among citizens.

Reflecting on the struggles endured by those who fought for the nation’s independence she said Guyana is now on an upward trajectory with continued development and progress shaping the country’s future.
“As we celebrate 60 years of progress and 60 years of a fierce march towards development we can say that under the sterling leadership of His Excellency and the People’s Progressive Party we are no longer a tiny city. No longer are we a small country in South America that’s forgotten we are a powerhouse of development,” she said.
Region 6 witnessed a similar fashion of celebration with Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustafa describing Guyana today as one of the fastest transforming economies in the world.
“But the true measure of Guyana’s progress is not found only in the economic statistics or international headlines. It is found in the lives of ordinary Guyanese,” he said.
