In a significant development, Region Ten is poised to emerge as the premier tourism destination in Guyana, according to Tourism Committee Chairman Devin Sears.

Three years since its inception, the Region Ten Tourism Committee (RTTC) is making substantial progress towards its overarching objective of positioning Region Ten as the leading tourism hub in the country.

Chairman Devin Sears highlights the committee’s concerted efforts to advance tourism in the region, marking a significant milestone in its journey.

Sears underscores the committee’s strategic partnerships with key stakeholders as pivotal in boosting tourism in Linden.

The committee has identified three key focal areas for development, aiming to capitalize on the region’s unique attractions and cultural heritage.

One crucial aspect is the branding and marketing of the Region. Sears emphasizes the importance of this initiative in enhancing the region’s visibility and attracting visitors.

Plans are underway to erect signage in various communities, including Kwakwani and Ituni, to promote tourism and highlight the region’s rich history and cultural significance.

The branding initiative will extend to iconic sites such as the locomotive site, Watooka Guest House, and Independence Square in Kwakwani, further enhancing their appeal to tourists.

Riverfront development, sports entertainment, and cultural tourism are identified as the other key focus areas.

Initiatives under these categories aim to showcase the region’s diverse heritage and traditional sports, which hold immense potential as revenue generators.

With ongoing developments in the region, including the Linden–Lethem road project and the construction of the Linden synthetic track, Sears anticipates a significant tourism boom and numerous opportunities for growth.

The RTTC has outlined a comprehensive strategy to bolster tourism, including the organization of tourism fairs, establishment of a multi-purpose tourism headquarters, formation of community tourism groups in indigenous communities, and capacity-building initiatives.

Recently, the RTTC inaugurated its office at Washer Pond Road in Mackenzie, marking a milestone in its efforts to drive tourism development in the region.

As Region Ten continues to make strides in tourism, Sears emphasizes the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to harness the full potential of this emerging industry for the benefit of all Guyanese.
