Region Ten Launches Training Programmes to Boost Tourism Sector

By Tracey Liverpool | January 2025

The Region Ten Tourism Committee (RTTC) is taking significant steps to enhance the region’s tourism industry by launching a series of capacity-building training programs.

These programs are designed to equip residents with the necessary skills to contribute effectively to the growing tourism sector.

The first two training sessions will be held in Kwakwani on January 11 and 12, focusing on business development and leadership.

Trea Johnson, Marketing and Branding Representative for the RTTC, emphasized the importance of starting in Kwakwani to ensure that the training efforts reach a broad audience across Region Ten.

“The main objective is to raise the service offerings here within the region,” Johnson said.

She highlighted the committee’s commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that all communities in the region benefit from the training.

In addition to the sessions in Kwakwani, three more training workshops will take place in Linden later in January.

These will cover front desk operations, vehicle safety, and housekeeping.

The sessions are open to individuals in these fields, as well as those interested in gaining new skills to enhance their prospects in the tourism industry.

Johnson noted that these training sessions are just the beginning, with plans for monthly sessions on various tourism-related topics, such as customer service and housekeeping, to foster continuous development.

Last year, the RTTC facilitated training for over 100 people in the service industry, and with this new initiative, the committee aims to further strengthen the region’s tourism offering.

Specialists will lead these sessions, ensuring that participants gain valuable knowledge to enhance the overall tourism experience in Region Ten.
