Region Ten Hosts Two-Day Housekeeping Training for Hospitality Sector

Over the weekend, the Region Ten Tourism Committee, in collaboration with HESS Corporation, CNOOC, and ExxonMobil, organized a two-day housekeeping training event aimed at enhancing the skills of those in the hospitality sector, including home economics teachers.

The training program, which included both theoretical and practical sessions, is part of the Greater Guyana Initiative.

Adrian Boston, General Secretary of the Region Ten Tourism Committee, highlighted that the training is crucial given the growing influx of tourists to Guyana and specifically to Region Ten.

He noted that the initiative follows a previous training session held in Kwakwani, which focused on customer service and food preparation for residents of Ituni and Aroiama.

Dr. Charmaine Marshall, Principal of the Carnegie School of Home Economics and one of the facilitators, reported that the training objectives were met successfully.

Participants are now expected to apply their new skills to make a significant impact in the hospitality industry.

Feedback from participants has been positive. Tonia De Santos, a teacher, expressed her appreciation for the training, indicating that it will be beneficial for her work in the hospitality sector.

Jomo Austin, a manager at Morning Star Hotel, also expressed his gratitude, noting that the training will be put into practice immediately.

Trea Johnson, Admin Assistant under the Greater Guyana Initiative program, remarked on the transitional phase Region Ten is undergoing and emphasized the vital role of tourism in this process.

She also mentioned that future training sessions will focus on front desk skills, aiming to further improve service standards in the region and beyond.
