Region Ten education sector seeing major growth

-by Tracey Liverpool

The education sector in Region 10 has seen significant growth and transformation over the past five years. According to Regional Education Officer LaShanna Anderson, major investments in infrastructure and learning facilities are helping to improve access to quality education across the region.

She revealed that the number of schools in the region has increased over the past five years. New nursery schools were constructed for the first time in communities including Bamia, Hururu and Rockstone.

“The total number of schools across the region has increased from 61 to 64, including the construction of six new school buildings, reflecting the Government of Guyana’s continued investment in quality education and national development,” she said. Among the major projects currently underway is the construction of a modern primary school at Wisroc Phase 1B.

The facility is expected to address overcrowding presently affecting One Mile Primary School while providing a safer and more conducive learning environment for both students and teachers. The new school is also expected to serve expanding communities within the area as demand for educational services continues to grow.

“This investment represents more than infrastructure. It is an investment in children, families and the future of Region 10.”

By reducing overcrowding and improving learning conditions, the new institution will enhance student engagement, support improved academic performance and strengthen the overall delivery of education within the region. The continued expansion of schools and learning facilities forms part of Government’s push to improve educational standards and opportunities countrywide.
