Region Six Sports Grounds Set for Major Upgrade with $600 Million Investment

Minister of Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh, has announced that significant enhancements are in the pipeline for various sports grounds in Region Six. Over the past weeks, Dr. Singh, who oversees the region, has been engaging with residents and sports enthusiasts, evaluating the potential improvements needed for these community grounds.

He disclosed that the estimated cost for these upgrades in the region would exceed $600 million. Dr. Singh highlighted the need for various measures, including the installation of fencing, sanitary facilities, and the establishment of management committees. Additionally, a program for regular maintenance, involving slashing and brush cutting, will be put in place.

“If we are to put in this fence… landfill put in sanitary facilities put in committees to manage these grounds, there has to be a program of regular slashing and regular brush cutting, and to ensure that is done. I understand that a few NDCs have slashers… we will try to make sure that every NDC has a functioning slasher,” explained Dr. Singh.

These initiatives will constitute the first phase of the planned ground enhancements. Minister Singh expressed confidence that the investments made into these community grounds will rejuvenate and revitalize sports activities across the various venues in the region.
