Region Eight Celebrates Graduation of First Batch of Community Health Workers

In a significant milestone for Region Eight’s healthcare sector, the first batch of Community Health Workers has completed their training, marking a pivotal step towards enhancing healthcare services in Guyana.

Region Eight, known for its diverse communities and geographical challenges, has achieved a milestone with the certification of 34 Community Health Workers from 23 different communities.

These health workers underwent rigorous training covering essential skills such as first aid, heart disease management, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and telehealth.

Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony commended the newly certified health workers, emphasizing their role in improving community-level healthcare.

He highlighted the Ministry of Health’s goal to ensure that at least 115 different medical interventions are accessible at levels one and two health facilities across the country.

Minister Anthony stressed the importance of community care as the foundation for effective healthcare delivery, underscoring the workers’ pivotal role in making initial diagnoses and providing treatment.

Addressing the graduates, Minister Anthony emphasized the significance of continuous learning in the healthcare sector.

He encouraged them to share their knowledge within their communities, framing their graduation as the beginning of a journey towards transforming healthcare delivery in Guyana.

The Minister assured ongoing support for the health workers as the healthcare sector undergoes modernization and expansion.

The graduation ceremony coincided with a visit to hospitals under construction, showcasing Guyana’s commitment to expanding its healthcare infrastructure.

State-of-the-art hospitals are set to be established nationwide, including in Regions One, Seven, Eight, and Nine, aiming to bolster the country’s healthcare capabilities.
