Farmers of East Bank Berbice today received a much-needed boost as Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha distributed over 5,000 citrus plants, along with fertilizer to farmers.
The distribution exercise follows a commitment made to farmers who requested the planting materials during a recent community meeting.
Farmers expressed gratitude for the support, saying it will help to boost their production and improve their agricultural output.
Meanwhile, Minister Mustapha said the initiative forms part of a broader vision for the area, given its vast agricultural potential and fertile land space.
“This area once used to make a tremendous contribution to the country and to the region in terms of agricultural produce. And we want to ensure that we go back into that area because we have a lot of land here. The lands are fertile. We will continue to assist the farmers and we want you all to produce as much as possible,” the minister said.
