For 108th birth anniversary of late President

Scores gathered at the Cheddi Jagan Research Centre, known as Red House, to mark the 108th birth anniversary of former President Cheddi Jagan.

Born on March 22, 1918, Dr. Jagan is being remembered for his lasting contributions and lifelong commitment to public service.

As tributes were paid, Chairman of the Cheddi Jagan Research Centre, Hydar Ally, reflected on the legacy of Dr. Cheddi Jagan, describing him as a man defined by humanity, peace, and a deep love for people.

He added that Dr. Jagan continues to stand tall among the great luminaries of history.

“There are not very many people in this world who would have had that sense of humanity and love for people as Dr. Jagan. Dr. Jagan’s ideology was rooted in humanity and love for human. He envisaged a society where there would be no exploitation of man by man,” he said.

Economist Rajendra Rampersaud shared similar reflections, highlighting Dr. Cheddi Jagan’s steadfast dedication to peace and his pivotal role in shaping the nation’s identity.

“If there are two legacies Dr. Jagan left in his life, one is the PPP and the other is the West on trial. It is an important output form him that it remains the most classical analysis of Guyana’s political economy history,” he said.

Widely regarded as the father of the nation, Cheddi Jagan served as Guyana’s first Premier and later as President in 1992, marking a pivotal chapter in the country’s political history.

Dr. Jagan passed away on March 6, 1997, but his legacy continues to inspire generations of Guyanese.
