Veteran cricket commentator Joseph ‘Reds’ Perreira has once again raised concerns over Cricket West Indies’ (CWI) delay in announcing a new selection panel for the men’s senior team.
Perreira’s remarks come in the wake of Roland Butcher’s departure from the Desmond Haynes-led senior selection panel for the West Indies men’s teams, as his contract was not renewed in December.
Currently, the selection panel comprises Coach Andre Coley and Desmond Haynes. However, Perreira questions why a new selector has not been named, especially with two rounds of the regional 4-day tournament already completed.
In a letter sent to Butcher in December, Cricket West Indies informed him of their decision not to renew his contract as a selector.
Perreira emphasizes the importance of having selectors in place to observe the first-class season, expressing his confusion over the current situation.
Perreira highlights the lack of information regarding the status of potential individuals who could fill the vacant selector position.
He stresses that both Caribbean people and players alike need assurance that a proper system is in place for the selection process.
As the cricketing community awaits clarity on the selection panel’s composition, Perreira’s call serves as a reminder of the need for transparency and efficiency within Cricket West Indies’ administrative processes.
