Recover Guyana took a significant step in its environmental-focused movement with the launch of the SHOUT 2.0 competition at the Ramada Princess Hotel.
Secondary school students in Grades 9 and 10 nationwide now have the opportunity to participate in the SHOUT competition, where they can propose and implement sustainable environmental projects within their schools.
Dr. Dave Lalltoo, the project lead of Recover Guyana, emphasized the educational essence of SHOUT, providing a platform to enlighten and inspire young minds about the importance of environmental conservation.
He highlighted how SHOUT fosters critical thinking, research, and public speaking skills, going beyond traditional classroom boundaries.
Acting Assistant Chief Education Officer for secondary, Sheldon Granville, praised the initiative for its impact on students’ development, emphasizing the enhancement of critical thinking and public speaking skills among participants.
Reflecting on her journey as the 2023 SHOUT winner and Guyana’s national Youth Environmental Speaker, Vassana Persaud shared her winning project—a purifying water system to combat plastic bottle waste. Her success serves as inspiration for this year’s participants.
Representatives from sponsoring organizations, including ExxonMobil, Camex Restaurants, Ramada Hotel, and GuyOil, were present at the launch, underscoring their commitment to supporting environmental initiatives.
