Recover Guyana, a local non-governmental organization, hosted a symposium titled “Pink Sunflower” at the National Library over the weekend.

This event is part of the organization’s ongoing activities for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and aims to raise awareness and empower breast cancer survivors and their families.

The symposium provided a platform for discussing critical issues related to breast cancer, featuring talks by notable figures.

British High Commissioner Jane Miller addressed the audience on the importance of cancer survivor advocacy, emphasizing the role of emotional support and solidarity among survivors and allies.

She highlighted the theme of collaboration, reinforcing that no one should have to face cancer alone.

Additionally, Dr. Surendra Persaud, Medical Director of Caribbean Surgery Inc., spoke about the importance of early detection in combating breast cancer.

He noted cultural barriers to seeking early treatment and emphasized that awareness and early intervention are crucial to improving survival rates.

Recover Guyana’s campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness Month is observed under the theme “Nourishing Hope, Strengthening Lives,” reflecting the organization’s commitment to supporting those affected by breast cancer and promoting early detection as a life-saving measure.
