Reconstruction of Brickdam Police Station Marks Pivotal Moment

In a symbolic ground-breaking ceremony, Guyana marked a pivotal moment in the rebirth of the Brickdam Police Station, which is set to undergo reconstruction.

The sod-turning exercise, held at the station’s Brickdam compound, was attended by His Excellency, Joint Services Heads, and the Contractors of the $28.1 million US dollars project.

The reconstruction project signifies the renewal and strength of the police force and the community it serves, with the new design plan featuring a 12-storey glass and concrete state-of-the-art facility.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Andre Ally, highlighted that the new facility would enhance functionality and provide modern facilities for officers.

The $28.1 million project has been awarded to the reputable R Bassoo and Sons consulting company in partnership with the Kwang Jain Group.

The timeline for the project spans 30 months, during which the state-of-the-art facility will house the operations of the divisional headquarters, featuring essential departments such as traffic finance, the impact base, CID, among others.

Contractor Roy Bassoo assured that the project would be delivered before the completion date without compromising quality.

The new facility is expected to be earthquake-resistant, equipped with a state-of-the-art fire detection system, advanced CCTV monitoring, a robust telephone and data network, dual elevators and staircases, and more.

It is designed to accommodate around two thousand persons.

The reconstruction follows a devastating fire two years ago, which was deemed malicious in nature.

The event marks a significant step toward the revitalization of the Brickdam Police Station.
