Raising Cancer Awareness: ‘Women on the Move’ Initiates October Activities

The ‘Women on the Move’ (WOTM) women’s group has embarked on a series of activities throughout the month of October, dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer.

Operating under the theme ‘Living beyond breast cancer’, the group seeks to shed light on various types of cancer.

The calendar of events commenced with an Awareness Day at the Vivien Parris Health Centre, followed by a church service for cancer survivors and health outreaches.

Camille Cummings, Chairman of WOTM, emphasized that while the group primarily advocates for breast cancer awareness, the planned activities will encompass various cancer types.

The presentations will cover a diverse range of cancer types, with a detailed discussion by a medical professional during the vigil.

The diverse lineup of activities includes a motorcade where participants can decorate their vehicles in shades of pink, a candlelight vigil, hamper distribution, and a fundraising event.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will be directed towards cancer survivors.

The pinnacle event, the cancer walk, is scheduled for October 29.

It will kick off at 6:00 AM from the Wismar shore, in front of the LUSCSL building on Burnham Drive.

Cummings invited everyone in Linden to participate, emphasizing that the event is inclusive and not competitive.

The activities will culminate in a social gathering for cancer survivors.

WOTM urges widespread participation throughout the month to bolster endeavors aimed at increasing cancer awareness.
