Following extensive surveying activities, including measurements and weight testing, preparations are underway for the commencement of road works along the East Bank Demerara (EBD) Corridor, spanning from Good Success to Timehri.

Today, Public Works Minister Juan Edghill addressed a ceremony marking the project’s commencement and stakeholder engagement, highlighting key aspects of the upcoming endeavor.

The road improvement initiative encompasses a range of upgrades to existing infrastructure, including drainage systems, bridges, and the road itself.

Minister Edghill emphasized the importance of adhering to the project’s 36-month timeframe and $76 million budget, stressing the need for citizens to receive value for their investment.

Minister Edghill underscored the significance of ongoing engagement and coordination throughout the project’s duration, emphasizing the importance of understanding and addressing the needs of the local communities affected by the road works.

The project, spanning approximately 24 kilometers, is divided into three sections: A, B, and C. Section A covers the stretch from Good Success to Supply, Section B from Supply to Soesdyke, and Section C from Soesdyke to Timehri.

Works will commence in Section B due to considerations such as road width, material accessibility, and minimizing disruption to residents.

In preparation for the project, consultations were conducted with utility companies to facilitate smooth execution.

Minister Edghill highlighted the signing of memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with utility providers, emphasizing the importance of information sharing and minimizing post-construction disruptions, including restrictions on road cutting.

Additionally, contractors were urged to prioritize the hiring of local residents from the communities where road works will take place, fostering economic opportunities and community engagement.

As the project moves forward, Minister Edghill’s announcements signal a significant step toward enhancing infrastructure along the East Bank Demerara Corridor, contributing to improved connectivity and quality of life for residents in the region.
