Minister of Public Service, Sonia Parag, announced that public servants in Guyana will undergo Spanish language training in 2024.
The initiative aims to provide free Spanish classes to persons employed in the public sector.
The training will be facilitated through the online course provider, Coursera, and is expected to commence by March 2024.
Minister Parag highlighted that the program will run for approximately 16 months, and interested individuals can apply through an online process, following Coursera’s requirements.
Minister Parag emphasized the significance of upskilling public servants in a world that is becoming increasingly interconnected.
With over 54,000 people in the public sector, the training is open to all, although it will not be mandatory.
Minister Parag encouraged public servants to participate in the course, considering the evolving demands of online interactions and the need for continuous development and modernization.
This initiative follows the Education Ministry’s decision to make Spanish a compulsory subject in schools.
